One of the smartest and most mischievous creatures of the forest, raccoons will live just about anywhere, because they’ll eat just about anything ! You’ll find raccoons in woodlands, marshes, prairies, and even in cities. They find a lot of their food in the water, using their quick paws to grab crayfish, frogs, and other aquatic creatures.

On land, raccoons eat mice, insects and eggs… but they also like to eat fruit and plants, including the kind grown by human on farms and in backyard gardens and farms. When they choose a place to live and raise their babies, it could be a hole in a tree, a hollow fallen log… or the attic of a house !

There are six other species of raccoons, in addition to the familiar northern North American bandit-masked raccoon, mostly found on tropical islands.
