Jaguars are big, strong animals… the largest of South America’s big cats and the third largest cats in the world – only lions and tigers are bigger. A few jaguars can be found in the southern USA, but they live mainly in the rain forests of Central and South America.

Unlike many other cats, jaguars do not avoid water, and they’re very good swimmers who love to eat fish, turtles and cayman, which are a kind of small alligator. Jaguars also eat larger animals such as deer and wild boars, and they will often climb trees to wait in hiding to ambush their prey. They have the most powerful bite of all the wild cats – twice as strong as the bite of a lion !
